Wildlife
All operations of Claybourn Walters Company are carried out in a manner that
protects water quality, promotes wildlife habitat, and encourages timber
production. We know that wildlife habitat conditions must be given high
priority when preparing a forest management plan. We strive to create a balance
between overall natural resource protection and land use.
Over-crowded and overgrown tree stands block out the sun and inhibit growth
of ground cover and forage that wildlife need for food and cover. Forest
management activities such as thinning, weeding out of undesirable trees and
clear cutting, allow the forest to regenerate and produce plants that animals
and birds can use. After harvesting there is usually an abundance of sprouts
and seedlings that increase food and cover for game and nongame species.
Timber sales and management plans can be very beneficial to wildlife if
handled carefully and responsibly. Proper timber management will enhance a
woodlands suitability for many forms of wildlife. Claybourn Walters ensures
that wildlife habitat is protected while timber production is enhanced.
Environmental
Claybourn Walters Company is committed to responsible stewardship of the
environment. We meet, and often exceed all applicable environmental laws
and regulations. But we don't stop there. We respect all
requirements, whether mandated by law or not, to minimize the impact of our
operations on the environment. All of our harvesting operations are
conducted under very strict
guidelines and regulations designed to protect the environment.
Claybourn Walters Company is proud of our environmental record!
What are "Best Management Practices"?
Best Management Practices (BMPs) for forestry operations (silviculture)
represents the minimum standards necessary for protecting and maintaining the
water quality as well as some wildlife habitat values while conducting forestry
activities. BMPs were designed for:
-
landowners
-
foresters
-
timber buyers
-
loggers
-
site preparation and reforestation contractors
-
anyone involved with forestry operations
Claybourn Walters Company uses BMPs as a minimum guideline in our activities.
We know that careful forest management ensures tree harvesting is done
responsibly, balancing growth with removal.
